Dirtyface is the husband-and-wife duo of Betsy Barta (vocals) and Paul Dumas (guitar), bringing raw American folk blues and back-alley jazz to life with grit, soul, and a storyteller’s heart. Rooted in the traditions of old folk, delta blues, and pre-war jazz, their music echoes the spirit of boxcar travels and smoky backrooms—honest, haunting, and alive.
Originally from Minneapolis, Betsy and Paul met in college and found harmony in their shared love of artists like Tom Waits and the deep well of American roots music. They cut their teeth busking across the country, hopping freight trains, and living for a time in New Orleans, where their sound steeped further in the rhythm and soul of the South.
Now newly rooted in the Chequamegon Bay music scene, Dirtyface carries stories from the road and from the heart—music meant to be felt as much as heard. Whether on a street corner or a quiet stage, they conjure the kind of songs that make you lean in and listen.
