The event is titled "Cattails: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" with speaker Kevin Brewster from the Superior Rivers Watershed Association. Logos for Superior Rivers, The Alley, and a tap handle with a pint glass appear in the lower right corner.

We hope you’ll join us for August Ashland Science on Tap Presentation from Superior Rivers Watershed Association’s Kevin Brewster. Kevin will be sharing his talk, “Cattails: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

Cattails are a common sight in our water rich environment, but what are they doing for or to the ecosystem? In this talk Kevin will discuss the differences between our local and non-local cattails, the history of how invasive cattails spread in our region, and their impact on our local environment, particularly in the Fish Creek Sloughs.

Kevin has been working with SRWA since volunteering as a grant writer in 2009, and took on the staff position of Watershed Restoration Manager in 2014. His academic and professional background is in environmental technologies and environmental journalism. Kevin’s primary roles include grant proposal development and project management in areas of fish passage barrier removal, sediment reduction, and stream bank stabilization.

Science on Tap happens every third Tuesday of the month at the Alley Restaurant in Ashland. There’s a 30-45 minute presentation from a speaker followed by an audience Q&A. We recommend arriving early to secure your beverage/food and a seat.
